Website Conversion Tips

by Guest Author on August 24, 2010

If you have a website or blog online and make money from it, you will realize that the more viewers are on the site, the more revenue you will make. This can range from making money from Pay Per Click advertisements, affiliate commissions, or by selling your own products.

I will show you some tips & tools to use so that you can test and tweak your website so that you get the most revenue out of it.

Copy writing

The first tip that I suggest is to perfect the copy writing for your pages.  This includes writing interesting text in various areas of a web page which includes:

  • Title Tag
  • Description Tag
  • Headers
  • Body

By having a engaging article and text on the page will get the viewer to keep reading and the longer you keep someone on your site, the more likely they are to click on an advertisement or buy products from you.  You can test this also with the great tools that I suggest next.

Google Analytics

If you haven’t heard of Google analytics, its a free analytic program from Google.  It allows you to track how many visitors came to our site, how long they were on the pages, where they came from, and various other detailed statistics.  To set it up, all you need to do is register with Google and paste a code that they give you on your site.  Once the tracking starts, you can monitor which pages people don’t stay long and tweak the page by making it look better.

Google Website Optimizer

Google Website Optimizer allows you to create two slightly different pages for the same landing page by placing a script Google gives you on both pages.  It then rotates each page for different viewers to test which one converts into sales better.  At the end of the campaign, it will give you a report on the better page.

Google Webmaster Central

Google Webmaster Central is another free resource of tools that I use for some of my search engine optimization campaigns to test.  It contains a lot of information about your site on the web but my favorite part of is its ability to report exactly where your site is ranked in Google for each keyword.  Then it goes into detail about how many impressions and clicks each particular term gets.

This can be powerful information because if you have a low amount of people clicking on your site in Google, then you can tweak the Title tag for that page and test it with this tool.  Then you can find out which text persuades people to click on your site in Google.  More clicks equals more revenue; remember.

So there you have it.  Those are some of my favorite tips and strategies to test and help make more money.  Remember a site with a lot of traffic may not make as much as a highly optimized site for visitors with less traffic.  This allows you to maximize your sites revenue potential. Another tip is on how to use colors effectively. Colors make us feel different emotions and moods. Black can be brooding and dull, or classy and mysterious. Yellow feels bright and spunky, and red seems vivacious and full of life. The color choices you use on your website can have a huge impact on your website conversions. Experiment with the colors regularly until you reach your desired conversion rate.
